Tools in the Trades Boot Camp goes to Saugeen Shores

Oct. 10, 2023

With a tremendous turnout and remarkable contributions from key industry players, the Tools in the Trades Boot Camp in Saugeen Shores was a resounding success. As part of its grand opening, Saugeen Sparks Training Center brought together labour unions, employers, and aspiring tradespeople to celebrate the future of skilled trades in the region. It was a day filled with excitement and promise, where we had the privilege of taking center stage with our plumbing Boot Camp amidst a crowd of dignitaries and businesses.

Honouring tradition, the day began and ended with traditional Indigenous ceremonies, adding a deeply meaningful touch to the event. This acknowledgement of the cultural significance and contributions of Indigenous communities resonated throughout the day.

Bruce Power, recognizing the need for skilled trades workers for their upcoming project, donated an incredible $100,000 to the training center. They also expressed a strong desire to partner with Tools in the Trades in future endeavours to help promote the skilled trades as a rewarding career path.

The event saw the presence of various labour unions, including the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario, Millwrights Regional Council, UA 527 Plumbers/Welders, Ironworkers Local 726, Women in Construction, CUSW, LiUNA Local 11059 Labourers, and Boilermakers Local 128. Employers such as Framatome, Aecon, and Wilson's Plumbing were also in attendance.

Participants at the Boot Camp event expressed their appreciation and enthusiasm for the program. Bruce County Economic Development commended the Tools in the Trades team for their dedication saying, "Such a fantastic turnout today! Well done Tools in the Trades", while the Saugeen Sparks Training Centre shared the kind words, "Tools in the Trades instructors addressed the participants during the hands-on learning phase of the plumbing program! AMAZING JOB!!!".

“"Tools in the Trades instructors addressed the participants during the hands-on learning phase of the plumbing program! AMAZING JOB!!!".”

Event organizer, Rob Stanley, was thrilled with how the day turned out, explaining, "We had a fabulous event in Southampton. The Tools in the Trades program was a big hit with the participants, and for such a large number of registrants, the program was executed without a glitch. What a fabulous and very professional team. It was an absolute pleasure working alongside the Tools in the Trades team."

The grand opening of the Saugeen Sparks Training Center signifies a significant step towards addressing the demand for skilled trades workers in the area and we were thrilled to be a part of it. We share the same goal of continuing to inspire and empower the next generation in such an important set of industries.
